There are three humanoid species: humans, angels, and demons. All three are capable of channeling Aether directly if their internal pathways are properly opened and functioning. Though, through Inir's Intervention, this knowledge was lost.
Humans
Humans evolved from a strange species of monkeys that had colorful fur and could manipulate aether. Thus, they are born with extraordinary hair and eye colors.
A divination system grew around the combination of hair and eye colors and what they say about a person's personality and path in life.

Angels
Angels are like a mix of Valkyrie and elves. The each have their own role, and were given a certain configuration of eyes in order to carry out their work. Some are psychopomps, while others are observers or scribes.
Every angel is spawned as an offspring of one of Inir's original seven, and share their progenitor's eye configuration and role.
While angels belong to Inir's Realm, they actually live in the physical realm. Inir's Realm is the name for the state of connection to Inir that allows angels to manipulate aether in the physical realm. As such, they are able to fly and perform magic when necessary. They tend to keep to themselves, preferring to focus on carrying out Inir's will.
When an angel fails to carry out Inir's will, or incurs the wrath of Inir or their progenitor, they are cast out of Inir's Realm. As a result, their angelic eyes are blinded, and they are cut off from Inir's aether pathways.

Demons are akin to energy vampires. They feed on the emotions and dreams of other species, collecting it as fuel that can be consumed in order to experience those emotions themselves at a later time.
